The series contains film and sound recordings related to the motion picture film, "The President: December 1967," including silent film footage that was not used in the finished film. The finished film is a narrative account of President Lyndon B. Johnson's activities for the month of December, 1967. The film contains scenes of a Cabinet meeting, featuring Admiral Thomas Moore, and a bill signing, featuring John Gardner, Secretary of the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. It also contains footage of Cardinal Spellman's funeral, at St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York City, on December 7, 1967; and the wedding of Charles Robb to Lynda Johnson, at the White House on December 9, 1967. The film also contains scenes from Texas, including the LBJ Ranch and the dedication of the Oveta Culp Hobby Library, Central Texas College, in Killeen. There is additional footage from the George C. Marshall Space Center, Michoud Assembly Facility in Louisiana, and the AFL-CIO Convention in Bal Harbour, Florida, featuring George Meany. Footage from Washington includes: the signing of a bill amending the Meat Inspection Act, in the White House East Room, attended by author Upton Sinclair, among others; the Pageant of Peace and National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremonies, at the Ellipse; the signing of the Kennedy Round Proclamation, in the White House Cabinet Room; the taping of "A Conversation with the President," in the White House Oval Office. It also includes President Johnson's trip to the funeral of Prime Minister Harold Holt in Melbourne, Australia. Public figures featured in the footage include: Prime Minister Kittikachorn of Thailand, President Thieu of South Vietnam, Finance Minister Sisouk of Laos, Vice President Yen of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Prime Minister Yew of Singapore, President Chung Hee Park of Korea, President Marcos of the Philippines, President Ayub Khan of Pakistan, Pope Paul VI, and General Westmoreland. Locations include the Royal Thai Air Force Base in Khorat, Thailand; Cam Ranh Bay, South Vietnam; Karachi, Pakistan; and the Vatican.

Upton Sinclair was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1878. Sinclair was an American author, novelist, journalist, and political activist who wrote many books in several genres. He is most well-known for his exposé, The Jungle regarding conditions in Chicago's meat packing plants, which influenced the passage of the Meat Inspection Act and the Pure Food and Drug Act in 1906.
